Corchorus Olitorius is also known as Jut Leaves in Bangladesh and are being used as vegetables in Africa, Middle East, and Southeast Asia. It is also used as Herbal Medicine to control or prevent dysentery, worm, constipation, and others.
Japan has been importing dry Jute leaf from Africa and Philippines and they are using it as substitute to coffee or tea, as health food, and as anti-oxidant and anti-stress. It is rich in Vitamins, carotinoids, calcium, potassium, and fibers. It is also rich in anti tumor promoter - phytol and monogalactosyl diacyglycerol. Study shows potential to reduce cancer.
